Another fascinating and beautifully designed retro-cassette tape concept. This really lovely piece of technology  is a portable music player that can dock 3 USB sticks at a time. It comes with a mock USB cassette tape which can store music and be used to make "mix-tapes" just like in byegone days. More pics and details here.

Retromania is an occasional series about "cassettes" as design artefacts or as photographed by other people. Number 1 in the series is a photograph taken by Rudolf-Benoit at the Open Source Festival 2011, in Düsseldorf, Germany. The girl appears to be using an iPhone or some other smartphone.  One can imagine that it's an iPhone encased in one of those retro cassette cases that they make for them.  I Googled a bit to try and find the exact model and I think that it's this one.

I got this because I rather liked Yes at the time. I imagine this was Wakeman's second "solo" album after "The Six Wives..." one but I've no idea what it sounds like... as I probably haven't listened to it since the day I bought it. I don't fancy giving it a listen now either.

If I were to select my top ten albums -very doubtful, because it's the sort of exercise that I find not only futile but also utterly pointless- 154 would very much likely be among the ones I'd choose. Ranks alongside Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures" in my books and is certainly one of the finest recordings to emerge during the post-punk period.
Curiously, even though it's an album I truly love, I've never bought a CD copy of it. Of course, I still have my precious original vinyl copy (which includes a 4-track 7" ep) and this tape. Tape which I picked up circa 1989 for in-car listening pleasure.
The album is so named because the band had played 154 gigs in their career at the time of the album's release.
